Spanish is the second most commonly spoken language in the world after Chinese and is the native language of 322 million to 400 million people worldwide. It is also the second most commonly spoken language in the United States after English. Indeed, the United States is home to more than 40 million Hispanics, and is the fifth largest Spanish-speaking community in the world, after Mexico, Spain, Colombia and Argentina. There are over 1.5 million people in Florida with Spanish as their native language, and the Hispanic commnities in Florida (and elsewhere in the United States) are exponentially growing. Over the past decade, the Hispanic population in every county in Florida grew by at least 30%. The importance of having the ability to communicate in Spanish is ever increasing.
Mandarin Chinese is the number one spoken language in the world. Indeed, there are roughly 882 million people in the world who claim Mandarin as their native or primary language according to the CIA Fact Book, and this number is exponentially growing. Mandarin is spoken throughout most of northern and southwestern China, in Singapore, in Malaysia, in Taiwan, in Sydney, Australia and along the West Coast of the United States — particularly in California. In light of the trade relationship between the United States and China and the strengthening position of China in the global economy, the ability to speak Mandarin is increasing in importance and value.
French is spoken around the world with 65 to 80 million people speaking French as their native language and 190 to 200 million people speaking French as a second or third language with significant speakers in 54 different countries. Most native speakers of French live in France; however, many French speakers also live in Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Africa, Luxembourg and Monaco. French is the official language of 29 different countries. It is also the official language of all United Nations agencies.
