Foreign Language Immersion School: Parent Information

Welcome to the FLIS Family!

Congratulations! We’re so glad you have chosen FLIS to foster a foundational love of learning and language for your child. This page will provide need-to-know information to help you and your student acclimate to FLIS.

Next Steps

Once your child has been accepted and officially enrolled at FLIS, we will schedule a meeting with you, your child, and school staff to review policies and procedures such as the code of conduct and student/parent expectations. Call us at 321-939-4177 if you have any questions about this process.

Supporting Your Child

The Foreign Language Immersion School is an academically advanced program that offers language immersion instruction in four languages. By 5th grade, students can read, write, and converse in English, Spanish, Chinese, and French. Our school community includes families with diverse backgrounds. Some speak multiple languages at home, while others are monolingual. Regardless of how familiar you are with the languages your children are learning at school, there are many ways you can support them with their studies at home.

Students have plenty of opportunities to interact with the languages they’re learning during school hours. At home, we encourage parents and caregivers to reinforce the academic skills they learned during the day. All homework is provided in English to facilitate this process. It’s vital to play an active role in your child’s education. Regularly ask questions and engage your children about what they’re learning and where they’re struggling.

Parents are welcome at school anytime. We encourage you to get to know our teachers and staff!

Parent Involvement

Strong relationships between parents, teachers, and students are the key to academic success. We encourage parents and educators to have open lines of communication regarding each student’s progress throughout the year. FLIS utilizes several programs to keep parents informed and up to date. We strongly recommend parents, caregivers, and anyone directly involved with your child’s education use the following methods to help stay informed.

School Events

FLIS hosts several school-wide events throughout the year, such as parades, carnivals, fundraisers, book fairs, and family fun days. We also offer opportunities for parents and caregivers to visit student classrooms as guest speakers and readers or participate in special events.

Email Newsletters

We regularly send school-wide updates, announcements, and news via email. If you’re not receiving these updates and are currently enrolled at FLIS, email us at contact@languageimmersionschool.com so we can add you to the list.

Remind App

Remind is used by teachers and staff in our elementary school to communicate with parents.  The administration will provide important school-wide announcements to all school families in both the preschool and elementary schools. Teachers can reach out to parents directly through individual and group chat features. Reminders and class announcements are also in the app. There is an in-app translation feature if you have a preferred language for updates.

Hi Mama App

Hi Mama is an app used in our infant, preschool, and VPK classrooms that provides parents and caregivers with real-time photos and texts throughout the day. From pictures of arts and crafts projects to classroom announcements, Hi Mama gives parents a convenient way to get updates during school hours.

Digital Bulletin Board

When visiting our school, check out the digital bulletin board in the lobby for information about school events and activities.

The foundation for learning starts with a healthy meal! At FLIS, we’re committed to providing delicious, nutritious meals students are excited to eat. Every meal is prepared fresh on campus daily.  Lunch and snacks are included with your preschool tuition. Elementary students can purchase school lunches or bring their own. In addition, Parents of elementary school students are always welcome to have lunch with their child(ren).
